Review: Galen Leather A5 Notebook Cover

I first saw examples of Galen Leather products on instagram through the many stationery hashtags that are out there, and since I had a little extra income in the month I decided to pull the trigger on their A5 Notebook Cover in Crazy Horse Brown.

It was described to fit the Leuchtturm1917 A5 Notebook, which I have been using (the Red Dot Edition) since April of this year. When it came in the mail the first surprise was the thickness of the leather and its stiffness, which has since become more flexible, and the color has somewhat lightened.

The stitching is heavy, and the thickness of the leather itself makes the statement that it will be around for a long time. The only potential lackluster item seems to be the elastic band that holds it closed, it feels flimsy, but only time will tell.

The biggest pull for me in buying one was that it could potentially hold what I tend to carry with me every day. So it was actually a lot of nerdy fun figuring out just what I would keep and what I would take out. Currently what is held is my Leuchtturm1917, two field notes books (Kraft brown, and White Resolution Planner), a Karas Kustoms Retrakt pen in Copper, and a stolen hotel card that I use as an under liner for my books and bible. (I know using a stolen item to use in your bible doesn’t sound the best does it?)

Anyway, after using it daily for a few months its become an essential for my daily rhythms, and I can definitely see buying from Galen Leather again.

BEOWULF Quote No.I

…deep in their hearts they remembered hell. The Almighty Judge of good deeds and bad, the Lord God, Head of heavens and High King of the World, was unknown to them. Oh, cursed is he who in time of trouble has thrust his soul in the fire’s embrace, forfeiting help; he has nowhere to turn. But blessed is he who after death can approach the Lord and find friendship in the Father’s embrace.
